Huckleberry Haven Bed & Breakfast

The latest in "Where in the World has Lady Blush Landed" series, and it just so happens to be close to home in Wenatchee Washington, my heart was warmed by the cozy hospitality I found in the dead of winter. A glowing fire greets you, tantalizing smells wrap around your senses the moment you step into the Huckleberry Haven Bed & Breakfast.

Freshly baked dessert bars spread out with snack varieties of fruits, nuts and beverages to supply a munching moment that may overcome you.

The smallest detail has been well thought out, daily newspaper awaits your reading, private deck from guest rooms have table decor even in the dead of winter, quilts to wrap in while viewing the city lights or fresh snow on the mountain tops.

There are 3 guest rooms and a brand new suite now available. Each room has wireless internet, personal TVs, movie selections, refrigerator stocked with cheese and water bottles for the road. Best of all, fresh huckleberry loaves, real butter, arranged with fresh grapes and personal chocolates, await your indulgence.

Breakfast menus change of course, with daily chef choices, but to prepare your appetite for what you may indulge in, our breakfast was a bountiful feast;

• Yogurt Fruit Parfait with toasted pecans topped with Huckleberry Sauce
• Huckleberry French toast
• Maple Glazed Bacon crisped to perfection!
• Norwegian Pecan Torte pastries (recipe included)
• Scones with cream butter and hand made huckleberry jelly

Huckleberry Haven hosts Ian and Ruth Leslie

Retired bus driver, host Ian Leslie spends summer days hand picking each and every huckleberry that is worked lovingly into baked specialties by wife and partner Ruth Leslie. A background in bakery ownership serves her well, from 1978-1983, what is now Lemolo's on Wenatchee Avenue, once was "The Dough Boys." She seems to prefer the leisurely mornings that begin at 7AM preparing breakfast for her travel guests, to the 3AM from bakery past.
