For over 50 years Johnson Box has been manufacturing millions of specialty wood boxes and crates for product packaging. The founder of the business, David J. Johnson started out as a teenager nailing together by hand 800 wooden Apple Boxes a day. With the invention of "General" nailing machines he went into the contract nailing business. He went from 800 hand nailed wooden Apple boxes a day to 8000. By the mid 1970's solid wood agricultural boxes and crates were mostly replaced by corrugated cardboard in the Pacific Northwest while millions are still being use in Southern California. Since early in the 1980's the industry has gravitated toward a customized wooden gift box, promotional wood boxes, and fund raising programs using different products in a specialty wood box.
